How to give authorization

Canada Revenue Agency

A tax preparer can be authorized to act on behalf of a client through a power of attorney with the CRA. This allows the preparer to access the client's tax information and perform tax-related activities.

How to authorize a tax preparer
• Log in to the CRA account,
• Access the Representative account,
• Select Authorization request,
• Choose the client type and RAC identifier,
• Select "Add authorization",
• Provide identifying information about the client,
• Choose a confirmation method,
• Add the level of authorization, expiry date, and program accounts,
• Submit the request.

Revenu Québec

You can have an accredited person prepare and file your return.

Before having an accredited person file your return online, you must complete and sign two copies of the authorization form (TP-1000.TE-V, Online Filing of an Income Tax Return by an Accredited Person).
You and the accredited person must each keep a copy of the form for a period of 6 (six) years from the date on which the tax return was filed.
Do not send Revenu Québec a copy unless they ask for it.

To allow your tax preparer to access your tax data for preparing your personal tax return, you must provide a valid power of attorney or your download code. You can obtain a code in one of the following ways:
• in My Account for individuals;
• by using the "Get Your Download Code" online service;
• by using the automated telephone service available at:
