The things to do

Guidelines

If you would like us to set up direct deposit with CRA or RQ for tax refunds, child assistance payments, and GST refunds, please provide an image of a void cheque. However, if you've already set up direct deposit and your account information remains unchanged, no further action is needed.  1  2

The things You Need to Do

►  New Clients: Provide the following information for family members: names, addresses, SIN, dates of birth, and a picture ID. ►  Existing Clients: Details of any changes to family situation (marriage, separation, birth, death, etc.) ►  New Clients: Latest income tax return for all family members (federal and Quebec, if applicable). ►  New Clients: Copy of 2024 Notices of Assessment from Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and Revenu Quebec (RQ). ►  Statements of any tax installments made for 2024. ►  Prescription drug insurance coverage is mandatory in Quebec. Please provide details about your coverage, including whether it was through a group health insurance plan at work, your spouse's group plan, or exclusive coverage by RAMQ. ►  Permission for Information Sharing: The CRA is requesting permission from Canadian citizens to share personal information with Elections Canada for voting list purposes. If you don't want to allow this, please inform me; otherwise, we'll assume you agree. ►  Quebec's Solidarity Tax Credit: For Quebec residents, to claim the Solidarity Tax Credit, you'll need the roll number or cadastral designation ("numéro matricule" or "désignation cadastrale") from your municipal tax bill (if you own a home) or RL-31 slip (if you rent). Note that this credit only applies to families with low income; if your income is higher, you won't qualify, and this can be disregarded. If you're unsure about eligibility, please consult with us.

Important reminder

Canadian taxpayers are required to report to the CRA foreign investment property or assets with combined COSTs over $100,000.

Filing must be done by the regular due date of April 30th (or June 15th for self-employed taxpayers and their spouses). The penalty for failing to report such a property is quite severe so please advise me if you have foreign assets with a cost in excess of $100,000 (real estate, bank accounts, investment accounts, etc.). This also includes foreign stocks held in a brokerage account in Canada.

The things you Don't Need to Do

1. Tear apart multi-copy tax slips.
2. Send monthly/quarterly investment account statements.
3. Summarize or document information already on official tax slips.
4. Prorate business/rental expenses (just provide the gross numbers).
